Kossan and Pantas to Launch Malaysia's First Greening Value Chain Programme

KLANG, Selangor, 9 November 2022Kossan Rubber Industries Berhad (KOSSAN) collaborates with Pantas Software (Pantas) to launch Malaysia’s first ‘Greening Value Chain (GVC) Programme’ to assist KOSSAN’s preferred small medium enterprise (SME) suppliers within their supply chain network. This programme aims to assist and incentivise KOSSAN’s SME suppliers to measure and manage their carbon emissions via a carbon accounting solution developed by Pantas. This programme, as announced by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)(1) in conjunction with the Finance Day at COP-27, will benefit KOSSAN’s SME suppliers and make them eligible for BNM’s Low Carbon Transition Facility (LCTF) of RM2 billion.

The Greening Value Chain (GVC) Programme

The participating SMEs will be provided with a carbon accounting software developed by Pantas at no cost, to calculate their carbon emissions. BNM and related agencies such as Malaysia Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), and Joint Committee of Climate Change Sub Committee 3 (JC3 SC3) Product and Innovation will provide an array of technical advisories and on-site diagnosis.

“The GVC programme is in line with our progressive commitment to deliver products that protect lives and conduct our operating activities in a responsible manner especially relating to climate-mitigation action. We believe that our products and operating activities must create value to all stakeholders – value that protect life and sustains through the generations. The GVC programme is part of KOSSAN’s corporate responsibility to encourage our suppliers to calculate their carbon emissions and prepare for the upcoming introduction of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism by the European Union,” said KOSSAN Group Managing Director and CEO, Tan Sri Dato’ Lim Kuang Sia.

“We want our preferred SMEs in our ecosystem to be part of the climate-mitigation action. We know that many SMEs are looking for the right information to understand carbon accounting and the related disclosures. Hence, we are giving the opportunity to our SMEs to ride on this programme by using the right carbon accounting platform,” said KOSSAN Executive Director and Chairman of KOSSAN Sustainability Committee, Lawrence Lim Siau Tian.

“It takes a kampung/village to create a sustainable supply chain. The GVC programme will assist KOSSAN in managing its supply chain emissions by working closely with its suppliers. Companies, especially SMEs, face many challenges when it comes to measuring and managing their carbon emissions. We believe that an integrated software solution, relevant training and awareness are essential to get SMEs onboard KOSSAN’s sustainability efforts to ensure a just transition. Pantas will measure, aggregate and disclose the necessary climate data for KOSSAN and partnering financial institutions to ensure the success of the programme,” said Pantas CEO and Co-Founder, Max Lee.
